In Budget 2023 our honourable union minister of India Nirmala Sitaraman has introduced the “Dekho Apna Desh Scheme” in order to promote tourism and also encourage people to visit and explore the spiritual side of our country and also to see the rich cultural heritage and diversity of India. The Ministry of Tourism is handling this project and the Indian government has set aside a substantial budget for the implementation of the scheme that will be used to promote travel and build out tourist infrastructure and in maintaining the maintenance of spiritual places around the nation.

On 1st February 2023, Our Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman introduced the advancements and benefits of the “Dekho Apna Desh Scheme “. She mentioned that this scheme primarily targets the people who belong to middle-class families in the country, encouraging them to travel within the country rather than abroad. The growth and development of a country depends on economic growth and this scheme’s goal is to increase domestic travel so that overall economic growth will increase.
Dekho Apna Desh Scheme will not only be helpful in strengthening the economy of the country but also helpful in expanding employment prospects in the tourism industry to provide a boost to the economy that is much needed. Have you ever heard about “Bharat Gaurav Tourist Trains” If not? Then let me tell you that it is an initiative by The Ministry of Railways. The Indian Railways has started operation of Bharat Gaurav Tourist trains from different parts of the country. The main agenda of this train is to promote tourism under the scheme of “Dekho Apna Desh” and promote our country’s rich culture and religious places and evergreen heritage.
Bharat Gaurav Tourism Trains
Bharat Gaurav Tourism Train is a great initiative introduced by the Ministry of Railways and Indian Railways to support Indian tourism under the “Dekho Apna Desh Scheme”. This will be a theme-based tourist circuit train that will run through different spiritual places in India. The aim of this Bharat Gaurav Tourism Train is to showcase India’s rich culture, spiritual places, and evergreen heritage by connecting important historical, religious, and cultural places of the country through rail. As we all know that our country India has a great magnificent history, and our government wants to showcase and promote the evergreen history and heritage of our country.

On the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day speech, our Honourable Prime Minister of India said that “ I know people travel abroad for holidays but can we think of visiting at least 15 tourist destinations across India before 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom”. According to the sources of PIB Delhi, a total number of 26 trips of Bharat Gaurav Trains have been operated by covering around 22 states and 4 union territories. IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has taken the initiative to promote this novel cause by providing holistic services to passengers and taking care of all their travel-related needs.
Bharat Gaurav Trains are a great initiative under the Dekho Apna Desh scheme and the main agenda behind this scheme is to promote domestic tourism and leverage the core strength of the professionals of the tourism sector to run theme-cased tourist circuit trains to promote Indian tourism. IRCTC provides various travel facilities to their passengers like accommodation facilities, catering facilities like morning tea, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, security on trains with CCTV cameras installed in all coaches, well-maintained washroom facilities, etc.
As we discussed earlier, Indian Railways had introduced the concept of operating tourist trains on theme-based circuits under the Bharat Gaurav Trains that were introduced under the scheme of the “Dekho Apna Desh” initiative. Here is the list of some trains that run to cover all holy places in India.
- IRCTC’s Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train
This is one of the important trains because this train has a mixed composition of Sleeper (Non AC), AC II-tier coaches, and AC III-tier coaches. Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train looks very attractive because the external body of this train showcases different pictures of the culture and traditions of our country. Pictures of different monuments, heritage places, different folk dance forms, sculptures, and different landmarks are printed on the body of the train.

This is one of the most popular tourist trains in India having a total number of 600-700 seating capacity with CCTV camera facilities. This train has its own pantry service for preparing fresh food onboard. You will be able to have a vegetarian regional freshly prepared meal on the train.
- IRCTC’s Deluxe AC Tourist Train
If you want to travel in a fully air-conditioned train then this train can be the best for your traveling because this deluxe train provides you all the comfort that you want in your journey. This Deluxe AC train is fully air-conditioned with only AC I and AC II-tier accommodation onboard. This train is fulfilled with all the good facilities like other luxurious trains.
Deluxe AC Tourist Train has a separate modern kitchen car along with two restaurants that will give you a semi-luxury kind of feel. Apart from that this train has single sofas with reading lights, foot massagers, a library for book lovers, washrooms having shower cubicles, shoe shiners, Unarmed security guards for safety purposes on the train, rail restaurants, and CCTV cameras for safety purposes. Thus, it is a semi-luxury train so it can’t offer a large seating capacity like Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train. This Deluxe AC Tourist train has a total capacity of 156 seats.
- Karnataka Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train
This is another special tourist train that runs under the Government of Karnataka (GOK). Karnataka Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train is a Karnataka government initiative to promote tourism in Karnataka. This Special initiative offers heritage tours of Kashi, Puri, and Dwarka by Running the Karnataka Bharat Gaurav Tourist train in association with IRCTC. This train has a fully air-conditioned facility by having 11 AC III-tier coaches to accommodate around 700 passengers onboard. The external body of the train depicts the beautiful and mesmerizing heritage and temples of Karnataka state which makes this train journey mesmerizing.

This beautiful tourist train from Karnataka is filled with all the top-notch facilities for passenger comfort. The main important features of this train include a CCTV camera facility, Unarmed Security guards for safety purposes on the train, a well-maintained separate pantry car for fresh food on board, and a well-cleaned washroom facility for hygienic sanitization.
