Tatkal Booking to Resume in 230 Trains From June 1st by IRCTC

The national carrier is slowly releasing the reign of its travel fleet across the nation. With over 200 new trains starting from today i.e. June 1, the railways is set to carry 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh travellers across the nation every day. The boarding rules have been revised as the travellers with RAC tickets can also now board the train.

Adding on to the existing travel benefits in unlock 1, Tatkal bookings are all set to resume from 1st June in 230 trains. The Indian Railways recently announced that they have decided to restore the Tatkal Ticket booking process for 30 Special trains and 200 Special Mail Express with a reservation period from the existing 30 days to 120 days. Here’s a quick view of how to book your tickets for these trains:

  1. The advance IRCTC ticket reservation can be booked 120 days in advance. 
  2. The resumption of Tatkal ticket booking will be implemented with effect from the date 31st of May, 2020 at 08:00 hours.
  3. The Indian railways said parcel & luggage will be permitted in these 230 running trains. 
  4. Tatkal quota allocation of seats will remain the same as in the regular train time-table.
  5. These running trains will consist of both AC and Non-AC coaches.
  6. Restoring all type-booking facilities marks an important step in Railway services. This will make ticket booking easy for all potential travellers from all parts of India.

Till now, the national transporter had not been allowing Tatkal ticket booking in these special trains. “All these special trains will have reserved coaches, but we have now decided to allow for Tatkal ticket bookings. Premium Tatkal ticket booking feature exists in some trains and will be allowed in these special trains too if the train regularly has that feature,” as per Indian Railway officials.

The 200 IRCTC special trains that will run from June 1 include Janshatabdi trains, Duronto Express trains and other Mail/Express trains. The general and sleeper class coaches of these trains will also have only reserved seats. Indian Railways has fixed a maximum limit for the waitlisted tickets in each class. The 30 special trains that are currently running are all air-conditioned Rajdhani-style services. Meanwhile, all regular passenger train bookings of Indian Railways have been cancelled till June 30. IRCTC is providing full refund to passengers on the cancellation of regular train services due to the Coronavirus lockdown.
