Every Indian citizen’s favorite Union Budget of India 2021-22 and its Railways Budget 2021-22 was finally announced on 01-02-2021(Monday) by Hon’ble Finance Minister of India Dr. Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha before the Hon’ble Speaker Om Birla. This year the presentation went paperless for the first time using the made in India tablet due to Covid 19 outbreak.

In an effort to revive Indian Railways which suffered massive financial losses during Covid 19 outbreak, the proposed budget focuses on allocating Rs.1,10,055 crores on Indian Railways out of which Rs. 1,07,100 crores is marked for capital expenditure. The Finance Minister also envisaged on commissioning of Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors by June 2022 (which would later be monetized for operations), investment on “Green Railways” projects, management of “Railway Safety fund”, 100% electrification of the broad gauge network by December 2023.

To comfort Travelers, FM has also mentioned about the new Vistadome LHB Coaches which are being built and attached in trains on tourist routes to offer world-class experience to Indian and foreign travelers. To provide train’s safety in high density networks and highly utilized routes automatic train protection safety would be installed to prevent train collision due to human error. She further stated about Indian Railways ”The National Rail Plan 2030” which would boost high speed rail connectivity in high demand routes. To deliberate on few routes proposed in the National Rail Plan 2030, it includes routes from Patna to Guwahati, Varanasi to Patna, Delhi Varanasi via Ayodhya, Hyderabad to Bangalore, Delhi to Ahmedabad via Udaipur, Delhi to Chandigarh, Mumbai to Hyderabad, and Amritsar to Jammu. The detailed update on Delhi Varanasi Bullet trains is currently with Indian Railways for review.

She emphasized the priority would be to cut down on the logistics cost of Railways and promote and incentivize on “Make in India” initiatives of the government. Some of the sections of Indian Railways especially Fright Corridors and Indian Railway Station would be out for bidding and would work under Public-Private Partnership(PPP mode) for upgradation of Corridors, Railway Stations and running trains on the network.

The Hon’ble Railway Minister of India, Mr. Piyush Goyal has also shown his confidence in the Railway budget 2021-22 and named it as Aatmanirbhar Bharat Ka Budget”. He has also mentioned that the Travelers may now be able to book unreserved tickets online through UTS Mobile App for cash transactions and contactless ticketing for convenience from February 01, 2021, in Chennai Suburban Terminus region –Tiruvallur, Royapuram – Gummidipoondi – Chennai beach -Chengalpattu & Chennai beach-Velachery sections to start with.
