Modi inaugurates World's longest railway platform Hubbali

Indian Premier Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the longest railway platform in the world measuring 1.5 kilometres located at Shri Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway station or Hubballi Junction in the Indian state of Karnataka.

It’s worth noting that Hubbali railway station lies in the South Western Railway Zone and is classified as having the longest railway platform within the Guinness Book of World Records.

Indian PM announced the platform during his visit to Karnataka. The ceremony of inauguration also witnessed an appearance by Indian Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Significance of The Longest Platform in The World

The aspirational design was vital to help serve the city’s growing requirements. Three more platforms have been added to the five existing platforms. Platform No. 8, which is 1507 metres, is the record holder for the largest railway platform. Two trains equipped with electric engines will depart simultaneously from the longest platform. This will allow for trains to operate across both directions. The longest railway platform in the world will meet the transportation requirements of the Hubballi-Dharwad area and will assist in increasing the efficiency of the yard.

Gorakhpur Platform Slips to 2nd and Kollam Junction to 3rd in Rankings

Gorakhpur Junction has now become the second longest platform in India, which is in Uttar Pradesh measuring 1,366.33 metres. The third longest railway platform is located in Kollam Junction in Kerala measuring 1,180.5 metres.

A sum of approximately 20.1 crores was made for the construction of the platform in line with the railway’s plan to improve stations. The construction started in February 2021 and is currently complete. The station connects Hosapete (Gadag side), Vasco-Da-Gama/Belagavi, and Bengaluru (Davanagere side) and is a crucial crossroad in Karnataka (Londa side).

Modi also inaugurated the new campus of IIT in Dharwad city and dedicated several other projects along with the world’s longest railway platform, Hubballi-Dharwad. Modi dedicated the entire IIT Dharwad Campus to India and its foundation stones were laid by him in February. The project was developed at a cost of more than Rs. 800 crores. The institution currently offers four-year B.Tech courses, as well as an interdisciplinary 5-year MS-BS program and Ph.D. Programs.

The Bengaluru – Mysuru Expressway

The Indian PM also opened the Bengaluru- Mysuru expressway that runs 118 kilometres between Bengaluru and Mysuru. The region’s economic and social growth will benefit from this latest road. 8,480 crore project. It will reduce the distance between cities journey time by half, resulting in a total of 75 minutes. Furthermore, the project entails widening National Highway 275 to six lanes along the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru stretch.

PM Modi launched electricity for the Hosapete, Hubballi, and Tinaighat railway sections as well as the upgrade of the Hosapete station. He also flagged off the Hubballi-Secunderabad Jn Express train with electric engines. This is aimed at increasing connectivity throughout the region. The electrification which was completed at a cost of over Rs. 530 crores will ensure continuous train operation by using electrical power. Moreover, the recently renovated Hosapete station will provide modern services and conveniences for passengers. According to the officials, the station’s design was inspired by the Hampi monument.

The officials claimed that PM Modi officially inaugurated the Jayadeva Hospital and Research Centre which is expected to cost about 250 crores. It will provide high-quality cardiac care for the community around the region.

PM Narendra Modi also announced the Dharwad Multi Village Water Supply Scheme which is expected to cost 1,040 crores. In addition, he set the groundwork for the Tupparihalla Flood Damage Control Project which is expected to cost about 150 crores. The project is designed to reduce the damage caused by floods in the region.
