We all know that Indian Railways always introduces Hydrogen train and hi-tech modern in order to provide better traveling experiences for the passengers. Now, in the 21st century of 2024, Indian Railways are all set to introduce modern & high-tech trains for achieving a sustainable transportation system. A hydrogen train uses hydrogen fuel cells for power, producing only water as emissions, offering an eco-friendly transportation alternative. This initiative will also help in achieving a greener and better transportation facilities for the passengers. Recently Indian Railways had introduced many high-tech and speed trains like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat etc. This operational initiative comes under the key component of the “Hydrogen for Heritage” program, which plans to deploy a total number of 35 hydrogen trains on various heritage and hill routes throughout the country.
Main Agenda Behind The Introduction Of Hydrogen Train
Indian Railways is developing these less costly hydrogen-fuel cell trains by using indigenous technology. There are also some plans that include retrofitting hydrogen fuel cells on diesel electrical multiple units and developing new and advanced locomotives. The main reason behind the Introduction of these modern high-technologies is to provide better and advanced traveling facilities as well as for increasing the shares of India in foreign market. Apart from that, we all completely understand the importance of a fresh and pure environment these days. Hence, Indian Railways are planning to increase its share of the country’s logistics market from 1600 million tonnes to 3000 million tonnes. Indian Railways has very great expectations from this hydrogen train. It is expected that this high-speed train will surely achieve the new milestone in India’s railway system. This Hydrogen train is the main part of Indian Railways broader strategy that will surely help in the reduction of carbon emission and the promotion of sustainable energy sources.
Total Costing Of The Project
The manufacturing of this advanced Hydrogen train cost almost INR 80 crore that is overall 9.76 million per train. In addition total INR 70 crore is required per route for the necessary ground infrastructure. Indian Railways has allotted a total INR 111.83 crore for the infrastructural development of this project. Diesel engines produce a large amount of harmful pollution but the hydrogen engines do not produce those pollutants like carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Hence, Indian Railways is expecting zero carbon emission.
